Policy Information for our Dance Season
Registration/Enrollment:
All students are required to register prior to enrolling in any classes at the studio. Registration for our full season begins mid-August each year. At that time, a registration fee of $25.00 will be required. This fee is used to provide insurance for our students for the season. It is separate from tuition and is not refundable.
Our regular season of classes begins mid-September each year. Registered students will be enrolled in classes that are appropriate for their age, skill and ability. A schedule of available classes may be provided for your reference at registration, however, a teacher’s recommendation for placement will always take precedence over class preferences based on friendships, car-pooling arrangements, etc. Any necessary schedule changes may be made during the first 2 weeks of classes.
Tuition Payment:
Tuition for the full season is $324.00 for your first one hour group class. For your convenience, we will break this down into 9 equal payments of $36.00, due on the first day of classes each month, September - May. THERE WILL BE NO TUITION PAYMENT DUE IN JUNE!!! Tuition for each additional group class will be an additional $252.00 per year, or $28.00 per payment.
Some technical classes are also offered on a slightly different pay schedule. If you/your child will be taking more than one class this season, please refer to the chart attached to help determine what your total tuition and monthly payments will be.
Payments received on or after the 20th day of each month will incur a late fee of $10.00. Alternate payment arrangements may be available, but these must be approved by management. Please feel free to call the studio to discuss available options.
Students do have the option of dropping any class at any time. Registering for classes does not constitute a contract to complete the full season. However, no portion of tuition that has been paid will be refunded. It is your responsibility to notify The Dance Connection as soon as possible, if you/your child will no longer be participating in a class.
Our Dance Season:
A full season includes a minimum of 30 classes, beginning in September and ending in June. Additional rehearsals scheduled prior to performances are also considered to be classes, even if they are scheduled at times other than the regularly scheduled class time. These are included in the tuition and attendance is expected.
Generally, we follow the school schedule for holiday closings at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. We do not close for most Monday holidays, but we will be closed on Columbus Day and Memorial Day. Other closings will be posted at the studio, on the website & thru the Yahoo group.
Students should make every effort to attend all scheduled classes. Regular class attendance is not only crucial to a dancer’s progress, but it also helps to instill the values of commitment and responsibility.
Cancellation of Classes:
No make-up class time will be required for classes that must be cancelled due to inclement weather, or for any other reason beyond our control.
If all classes need to be cancelled due to inclement weather, or for any other reason, we will make every effort to have that message on the answering machine, posted on the website and out to the Yahoo group as early in the day as possible.
Student Behavior/ Attendance:
Students are expected to arrive for class on time, be dressed appropriately and ready for class to begin promptly. Students are also expected to follow the instruction of the teacher or assistant, behave appropriately in class, and treat the teachers, assistants and other students with respect at all times.
Any student who is disrupting the class may be asked to sit out for a brief time during the class. If a student continues to be consistently disruptive during more than one class, the student may be dropped from the class, temporarily or permanently, at the teacher’s discretion. If a student is dropped from the class by the teacher for disruptive behavior, there will be no refund of any tuition paid prior to that date.
It is expected that students will attend class on a regular weekly basis.
Costumes:
Costumes will be required for all students participating in our annual end of the season performances or in competition. Students will be sized, and costumes will be selected and ordered in November & December of each season.
A costume deposit of $30.00 per each class/costume will be required prior to costume orders being placed. This deposit will be applied to the total cost of the costume ordered. Costume deposit payments will be accepted beginning in September, but must be paid prior to the December break for the holidays. If the costume deposit has not been paid, that costume will not be ordered for your student & your student will be removed from the performance choreography.
Costumes begin arriving in January of each season. Exchanges for size or items arriving damaged will be made promptly, as needed.
The balance due for each costume, after the costume deposit has been applied, must be paid in full no later than January 31st of each season. Any costume balances remaining due after January 31st will incur a late payment fee of 10% of the remaining outstanding balance on February 1st, March 1st, April 1st, etc., added to the total balance due.
Costumes may not be cancelled & returned after they have been ordered.

-Dancewear for the 2008- 2009 Season-
While we encourage each of our students to express their own unique style and individual personality, there are some guidelines regarding dress and footwear that we must require. Instructors must be able to observe the student’s body position and alignment while teaching, to insure that the student is learning proper techniques. And since we are a co-ed studio, distracting or revealing clothing that takes attention away from the instructor and/or class cannot be allowed. While some classes do have specific requirements for dress, these general guidelines should be followed:
Dancewear:
For the ladies; leotards with tights, tight fitting shorts, capri’s, tank tops, any tight fitting clothing is acceptable.
For the gentlemen; fitted dance or athletic type shorts or pants, with a fitted t-shirt or tank style dance shirt.
All students must wear clothing that is appropriate for dance class. No street or gym clothes will be allowed for class. This includes loose fitting t-shirts, sweat shirts or pants, jeans, cargo pants, denim or twill shorts, etc.
All skirts, shorts, pants, etc. must be worn at the waistline. This applies to both male and female students. Dance shirts/tops must be full length. No crop or bra style tops, or exposed stomachs will be allowed.
Tights are recommended, but not required, with leotards, skirts & shorts, to protect the legs during floor work.
Hair should be pulled up & secured away from the face and neck. And, for safety’s sake, no long, dangling jewelry is allowed in class (this includes necklaces, bracelets, earrings, anklets, etc.).
Any student who is not dressed appropriately for class will be asked to change. If a change of clothing is not available, the student will be asked to sit out the class.

Competition & Performance Dancers: Competition dancers & students performing in our yearly productions will need to have a variety of shoes. Your instructors will notify you if you will need a shoe other than those being worn for class to compliment your costume. Please order them as early as possible.
Teachers will discuss appropriate dress and footwear for class at the beginning of the season. It is a students’ responsibility to come dressed properly and prepared for class, but parents can help by being familiar with what your child should be wearing, including appropriate shoes, for each of their classes. Please also be sure that your child’s hair is secured up and away from their face and neck for all classes.

To minimize distractions to classes in progress, parents are required to remain in the lobby areas while in the building & requested to be quiet and considerate at all times. Unless we are notified of any changes to your/your child’s schedule, your tuition payments will continue to apply thru June of each season.
We make every effort to begin classes promptly. Please be sure your child arrives for classes early enough to be ready to dance when their class begins.
Please notify your dancer’s teacher if your child will not be in class. Any child who is too ill to attend school should also not attend dance classes that day. If your child is sick but not extremely ill, they are recommended to come and watch the classes they are missing.
If you would like to have a recording of your student’s songs made for practice at home, please provide their teacher with a blank cassette tape or writable CD, labeled with your student’s name and the songs you need recorded.
Child Care is not available at the studio, and should not be expected – please do not leave your young children unattended.
To minimize distractions to classes in progress, parents are required to remain in the lobby areas while in the building & requested to be quiet and considerate at all times. Parents will not be allowed in Studio #2 to observe classes. We will make every effort to have classes that are held regularly in Studio #2 rotate out into Studio #1 periodically, and we will be sure to notify parents of when this opportunity to observe those classes will be available.
If you leave the studio while your child’s class is in session, please be sure to be back promptly when the class ends. If you will be late arriving to pick your child up after classes, please let their teacher know ASAP.
Please do not block traffic by dropping off or picking up students at the front entrance, rather use the back entrance for dropping of or picking up students.
Parents are responsible for the behavior and actions of their children at all times, and liable for any damages done to the building or property by their child.
Please respect our dance floors – NO STREET SHOES are allowed on the dance floors at any time.
And: Activity in both of the lobby areas (upstairs and downstairs) can be very distracting and disruptive to classes that are in session.
Please - take cell phone calls, crying babies, bored siblings, animated conversations, etc. outside. We will sincerely appreciate your cooperation in this!
Remember – classes are in session. - Please be quiet and considerate at all times!
